Ruined Escape Plan
Artist Spotlight: Formed in 2008, out of a musical passion that guitarist member Kyle Hansen visioned. With the help of vocalist Maria Pelletier, both musical visionaries knew that they had to pursuit their love for music. They set out to find colleagues and friends who would share their similar interest of expressing themselves through lyrics and had the same level of commitment and dedication.
This level of commitment and dedication was proven when the band decided to relocate to Edmonton, Alberta due to the larger artists community and a more interactive music scene. The open embrace showed by the Edmonton crowd made it all the more easier for this band to welcome their new fans as they continue to rock the Edmonton stage.

With killer vocals, sick riffs and a united group, it was no surprise that this band took home 5th place at Landmark Events Edmonton Showcase Festival. These are just few reasons why this talented band are being featured in our artist spotlight segment.
Ruined Escape Plan, is a rock influenced band. It consist of four members; Maria Pelletier as vocalist, Kyle Hansen as the guitarist, Reid LeClair as the basist and Matthew Plested as the drummer.
Since their beginning in 2008 to now, the group has matured and changed significantly. By exploring and experimenting various types of music genres due to their diverse musical backgrounds their interest in music led them to expand to different genres such as: Pop-Punk to Metal. All these different approaches allowed Ruined Escape Plan to find their voices and to express their music through an alternative rock inspired sound that can be heard today.
A few selected fans are invited to an exclusive release party of the band's interpretation on the famous folk song "House of the Rising Sun." However, you shouldn't worry as we will all have the opportunity to be included as it go viral and released to the public after the gathering on July 18th, 2015.
For now, here is a teaser video of what we can be expecting to hear
House Of The Rising Sun by Ruined Escape Plan
I had the opportunity to ask the band a few questions regarding their emotional and strong interpretation of the song.
In one sentence, how would you describe your band and what it stands for?
"Ruined Escape Plan is a four piece, insight-driven and musically propelled, rock experience."
What were your artistic ideas behind the making the video?
"In this video, we sought to reflect the lyrics, or an interpretation of the lyrics, that spoke of a person coming from a broken or relatively undesirable home life, and trying to find an escape. The outcome for the video's character may not be ideal, and decidedly pessimistic, but we felt that it contributed best to the feeling our video's interpretation of the music."
What inspired you all to do this cover?
"I once read that House of the Rising Sun was originally performed as a folk tale traditionally telling a woman's story before being largely popularized by the Animals. With a growing focus on the track, covered by Five Finger Death Punch, and a version being featured in the TV show Sons of Anarchy, we felt that it would be very powerful to feature the song performed by a female vocalist, and that this could present the song from a new perspective that could be appreciated."

What can fans expect from your original music tracks?
"We always seek to create open-ended music that can have several interpretations to an attentive listener, while writing music that is emotionally captivating, so I hope listeners can find something in the instrumentation, the melodies, and the lyrics that they can connect with in a powerful, personal way, and enjoy."
